Rev. John P. Burns: Pastor
Reverend John Burns is a native of Salina, Kansas.  He received his undergraduate degree in American Studies from Oklahoma Baptist University in 1978 and his Masters of Divinity from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary in 1981.


Rev. Burns was ordained in 1977 by the Bel Air Baptist Church of Salina, Kansas and has been the pastor of churches in Oklahoma, Illinois, Louisiana and Maryland. Since 1991 he has been the pastor of the University Baptist Church in College Park, Maryland.


He is a founder of St. Charles Parish Social Services in St. Charles Parish, Louisiana, Bethesda Cares in Bethesda, Maryland and Congregations United for Compassion and Empowerment in Hyattsville, Maryland.  All three organizations were formed to provide help for the economically needy in their respective communities.

Rev. Burns was the recipient of the 1990 Governor's Award for his work with the homeless of Montgomery County and the 2000 Award for Racial Reconciliation from Prince Georges County.


John has served on various committees for the American Baptist Churches, the Alliance of Baptists and the D.C. Baptist Convention. He has been privileged to speak at revivals, conventions, conferences, retreats, dinners and various other occasions in many different states.

His first book, Mary; A Model for Christian Disciplehip was published by Judson Press in June of 2007.  John is married and has five children and one grandchild. 
Rev. W. Mark MacIntyre: Associate Pastor for Music and Education

Reverend W. Mark McIntyre received his Bachelor's of Music from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1987, and his Master of Divinity with Church Music and Religious Education from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1989.  Mark has been the Associate Pastor for Music and Education at University Baptist Church since 1997. 

Rev. McIntyre is responsible for the administration of the entire music ministry, worship coordination, and creative worship programs.  The music programs which he leads include the Adult Choir, the Youth Choir, various choral ensembles, and the Handbell Choir.  During the worship service he plays the organ and piano as well as conducting the Adult Choir.

He coordinates all of the christian education programs at University Baptist Church, which includes the Sunday Bible Study for preschool, children, youth and adults, Vacation Bible School, youth group activities and mission trips. 

Mark is active in his community incuding the Help By Phone Food Pantry, the Hyattsville United Methodist Church Community Cafe, the Baptist Student Ministries at the University of Maryland, College Park, and the local elementary school, University Park Elementary.

Mark is married and has one child.
