Carol Cron Speaks at DCBC On Tuesday, October 26 Carol Cron, Chair of the Communications Committee, was invited by the D.C. Baptist Convention to speak to a group of about 150 people at their annual meeting on the topic of social networking and how it can be used in the church. Carol was joined by several other speakers from area churches to describe our website, our Facebook page, and our newly-formed Communications Committee. She was asked specifically how the use of Facebook can be used to grow the church. Her response was that people who don't normally come to church can look at it, see our activities, our ministries, see comments that are posted, watch videos of our great music, and then go on to look at our website to see if they would like to visit. on Social Networking in the Church |

New Parking Lot at
UBC! Following our annual meeting, the congregation gathered outside on our new parking lot to give glory to God for providing the much-needed improvement to our property. The Lord enabled us to pave our deteriorated lot without taking out a loan or putting any of our ministries in financial jeopardy! We therefore dedicate this lot to be used to continue the work of Jesus Christ in our church, community, nation and world. |

| Pastor John Burns' Book: MODELING MARY IN CHRISTIAN DISCIPLESHIP By Rev. John Burns Pastor University Baptist Church |
| Rev. John Burns has authored a book, Modeling Mary in Christian Discipleship, and it is now available for purchase from Judson Press or another online book company. Copies are also available for $11 through the church's Media Center. Judson Press describes the book as follows: "The practice of an art form is more dynamic than it is linear. So, I believe, is the journey of discipleship." —from Chapter 1 "John Burns is a master storyteller with a pastor's heart. In Modeling Mary he instructs, inspires, and brings to us a refreshing and intimate understanding of discipleship." —Bernard Richardson, Dean of the Chapel, Howard University
Judson Press Describes Pastor Burns' Book:
Thinking about discipleship in terms of steps, stages, phases, or levels makes many Christians uncomfortable. After all, how many of us want to take a critical look at ourselves and our journey of spiritual development, only to find we’re not at the level we think we should be—or worse yet, we’ve regressed! Maybe we can’t even identify the stage we’re in.Author and pastor John Burns has an aversion to descriptions of discipleship that involve gradations of achievement. He’s troubled by the many best-selling books on the subject that indicate that there are steps to follow which take disciples in a straight line from baptism to sainthood like ascending rungs on a ladder of discipleship.
