We Partnered with
Martin Luther King Christian Church
for a Joint Bible Study

In March and April we studied the book, "Same Kind of Different as Me," by Denver Moore and Ron Hall during our Wednesday evening Bible Study. The Martin Luther King, Jr. Christian Church (Pastor Jean's church) studied the same book during this time, and we paired with their members to talk two or three times on the phone or via e-mail about their experiences reading this book.

At the conclusion of the study we traveled to the MLK Christian Church for a Sunday afternoon joint worship celebration.

Fall 2009 Bible Study

In the Fall of 2009 the group met on Wednesday evenings to study "Poems, Prayers and Promises," which is the scriptures and prayers of Ranier Maria Rilke. All the prayers of Ranier Maria Rilke come from Rilke's Book of Hours: Love Poems to God.

Vacation Bible School 2009
Camp E.D.G.E.:
Experience + Discover God Everywhere

This was the theme for our 2009 VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL. Every morning from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 noon, twenty three "campers" ages 4 through grade 6 discovered that God is with them all the time, in every place they go and through all the circumstances of life! They learned that God is ready not only to guide them, but also to help them. By the end of the week, all campers found the tools necessary to unlock the mystery symbols they saw each day.

The Bible verse for the week was:
"The Lord is my strength and my might." ~ Psalm 118:14a

During the week, children learned the E.D.G.E. pledge:

■   God is with me. I will stay close to God. Trek to the Promised Land
      (Joshua 1:1-11; 3:1- 4:18)
■   God guides me. I will follow. Trek to Bethlehem (Matthew 2:1-12)

■ God teaches me. I will learn. Trek to the Pharisee’s House (Luke 14:7-14)

■ God loves me. I will love God and others. Trek to the Upper Room
(John 13:3-20; 13:33 - 14:30; 16:12 - 18:1)

■ God sends me. I will go. Trek to Galilee (Matthew 28:1-10, 16-20)

Easter Sunday
2009

At the conclusion of the Easter Sunday worship celebration, the congregation brought fresh flowers to the altar, and placed them on the bare Cross of Jesus Christ. It was truly a special time, and the outcome was beautiful. We plan to Flower the Cross again in the future.
